This was one of the most common ferns of our trip to Mexico, but it was also one of my favorites. As you can see here, it was very successful on open and disturbed areas, often dominating wide patches along the Carretera Oaxaca-Tuxtepec (MEX-175). Diplopterygium bancroftii is the only species of its genus in the neotropics. The other ones (ca. 10 spp.) are known from India, SE Asia, Malaysia, and Japan.
