I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Oaxaca with my friends Michael Sundue and Rafael Torres. It was my first time in Mexico, and as soon as I arrived there, I went running to the Central Market to botanize a little bit. Being a fern guy, I did not fail to notice that some interesting species were being sold for medicinal purposes (resulting in my first gatherings from Mexico, of course!). Here you can see Selaginella lepidophylla, a lycophyte that was locally known as “Doradilla”. According to the seller, this plant should be prepared as a tea for the treatment of several kidney diseases. Each dried plant was worth ca. U$1.00.
