Pleopeltis pleopeltidis

by | Jan 11, 2014 | Ferns, New Collections | 0 comments

Pleopeltis pleopeltidis is endemic to Brazil (BA, MG, RJ, SP, PR, SC, RS). Note the white dots on the adaxial surface of the leaf. Those are cretaceous hydathodes, and may help to identify this species. Also interesting is the presence of leaf nectaries (here covered by a black fungus), which is apparently a good synapomorphy for the genus. The name P. typicum is a synonym, representing nothing more than a small form of P. pleopeltidis.
