This small Elaphoglossum was abundant in rocky crevices in dry paramo at PNN El Cocuy. It has a very long-creeping, highly ramified rhizome densely covered with black scales. It appears to be endemic to a small portion of the northeastern Andes in the departments of Boyacá and Arauca in Colombia and the states of Tachira and Mérida in Venezuela, although this name has also been applied to some Costa Rican plants from much lower elevations.
