Diplazium bellum is one of the three basalmost species in the phylogeny of Diplazium (the other two are Diplazium caudatum and D. ovatum), which belongs to Diplazium subg. Pseudallantodia. It is not commonly seen in the wild with only a few distribution spots in southwest China. This species is distinct by its orthogonal, more or less opposite pinnae, and ovate, rarely paired back-to-back sori.
