has often been recognized as Asplenium phyllitidis subsp. malesicum Holttum. It is a loosely nest-forming epiphyte. The individual had ants living in the root mass.

Epiphyte, fronds loosely nest-forming, the petioles winged to the base, rhizome provided with abundant spongy roots. Root mass inhabited by large black ants that had formed tunnels in the roots.
