How was cultivation conducted? I’ve heard germination occurs underground with gametophytes taking in excess of 8 months to mature. Anything special about your soil mix? Boggy? Very cool.
Good questions Trevor. Unfortunately, I was not the gardener, just the photographer. It may have been transplanted as well, but that is just a guess. I don’t know whether that would be more likely. The garden was largely the project of Geoffrey Gunsalam from the Sabah Forestry department. However, I no longer have his contact information. If you can find him, let me know! I want to talk about ferns with him more.
Ach, bummer! I am thankful for your posting regardless, though am sorry to say I’ve no contact information. For all my e-mails to past-publishers of papers and the like, none formally or informally (save yourself through this fantastic site) has returned contact. If you have any other photos of the garden I would love to see such as much!
Dear Dr. Sundue,
Geoffrey Gunsalam is not from Sabah Forestry Department, he is with Sabah Parks Management.. and the Crocker Range Park is managed by Sabah Parks. Ya you are right, the plant have been transplanted. This species is commonly found in lower altitudes and used by local people in Sabah for its medicinal value.
Oh thanks for setting that straight!
