Pentarhizidium orientale

by | Dec 31, 2014 | Cultivated, Ferns, New Collections | 0 comments

In the October meeting of the New York Fern Society, Dr. John Mickel shared examples from his garden (which has ca. 150 species of ferns!!!), including the sensitive fern, Onoclea sensibilis, the Ostrich fern, Matteuccia struthiopteris, and a beautiful specimen of Pentarhizidium orientale, a lesser-known fern in this group. Pentarhizidium has only two species that are limited to eastern Asia. It has been placed in Matteuccia and Onoclea, but it turns out to be distinct.
