Phlegmariurus varius (R.Br.) A.R.Field & Bostock is a subtropical and temperate species from the deep south of Oceania, occurring in temperate Australian and New Zealand rainforests as well as subtropical and temperate Oceanic Islands. This species grows in a remarkable number of forms that appear to be related to its habitat, it can be a robust and upright terrestrial, a massive lithophyte or a long an delicate weeping epiphyte.
This is an amazing species. There are some species in the Neotropics with similar variation in growth habit – either massive terrestrials, growing off rocks, or epiphytes. Nice.
